Is Nabuh Energy going bust?

On 21st September 2021, Ofgem revoked the supply license for Nabuh Energy. However because Nabuh are not active in the market, having sold their customer book to Centrica, there is no need to appoint a supplier of last resort.

Who are Nabuh Energy?

Nabuh Energy are based in Sheffield and started trading in July 2018. They concentrate on the pre-payment market, although they also have tariffs for customers paying by direct debit.

What tariffs do Nabuh Energy offer?

Nabuh Energy’s main offer is their 12-month fixed rate prepayment tariff. The company claims that this is the cheapest fixed rate pre-payment tariff in Yorkshire, a claim that was recently confirmed by Uswitch.

There also three 12-month fixed rate tariffs for people who prefer to pay by direct debit. The main difference between these three tariffs is that some of the tariffs charge a higher standing charge with a lower charge per unit, whereas other tariffs charge a lower standing charge with a higher per unit charge.

People who consume a relatively high amount of energy will find that the tariff with the higher standing charge and lower per unit cost is more cost effective, whereas people who consume a relatively low amount of energy will find the tariff with a lower standing charge but a higher per unit charge works better for them.

Nabuh Energy do not offer a tariff aimed at electric vehicle owners. However, they offer Economy 7 on both pre-payment and direct debits tariffs. This could be a good option for people who charge their vehicles overnight.

None of the tariffs has an exit fee. Some of the tariffs apply to smart meter users only.

How do Nabuh Energy compare on price?

Nabuh Energy are the cheapest pre-payment energy supplier in Yorkshire according to Uswitch.

Their tariffs for customers on direct debit payment are competitive, but there are better options available.

What do other Nabuh Energy reviews say?

Nabuh Energy only score 1.4 out of five stars on TrustPilot with 84% of the reviews rating the company as bad.

Citizen’s Advice rank Nabuh Energy in 40th place out of 40 energy suppliers with an overall score of 1.7 out of five stars.

How green is Nabuh’s energy?

Nebuh Energy lists their fuel mix prominently on their website, but it is not particularly green.

Only 2.6% of the electricity comes from renewable sources. The main source is gas (62.6%) with nuclear (19%) and coal (11.8%) also featuring prominently.

What is Nabuh Energy’s customer service like?

Nabuh Energy does not have a live chat feature on its website. They say that customers can contact them via Facebook Messenger, but online reviewers claim that Nabuh Energy does not respond to messages sent via Facebook as quickly as they could.

Nabuh Energy’s call centre is open until 8pm on weekday evenings which is impressive, but phone calls to Nabuh Energy take five minutes and seven seconds to be answered on average, which is longer than most energy suppliers take to answer the phone.

Nabuh Energy receives 119.9 complaints per 10,000 customers which is considerably higher than the average number of complaints that energy suppliers receive.

What is Nabuh Energy’s website/app like?

Nabuh Energy’s website is nicely laid out. There is no live chat option, but you can update your account details, see your energy use and submit meter readings online.

There is an app which is compatible with both Android and iOS devices. In theory, this should be a game changer for customers using pre-payment meters because the Nabuh Energy app claims to make it easy for those customers to top up their balance via the app rather than having to go to a PayPoint retailer.

However, users of the app complain that the app takes far too long to synchronise with their account and frequently crashes. As such, many of the app users have found it to be impossible to use the app to top up their pre-payment accounts.

Even when app users have successfully topped up their balance they say that it takes far too long for the top-up to appear on their meter. App users have also complained that the emails that are supposed to be sent to confirm top-ups do not arrive and if they request confirmation via text message instead they are charged 15p per message.

The Nebuh Energy app only scores 1.3 out of five stars on the Google Play Store and 1.2 out of five stars the Apple App Store.

What billing options are available?

The majority of Nebuh Energy’s customers are on pre-payment meters. These customers can top up their account balance at PayPoint retailers. Pre-payment customers who have smart meters can also top up their account online, via the Nebuh Energy app or by phone.

Nebuh Energy also offer payment via direct debit. The first payment is taken on the date that the account is activated and direct debits are taken monthly after that. Paperless billing via email is standard, although customers can request paper billing. Braille billing is also available.

The monthly direct debits are based on estimated consumption, but if a customer supplies a meter reading their next bill will be amended to reflect their actual consumption. Direct debit customers with smart meters do not need to supply meter readings because their smart meters will send meter readings automatically.

Do Nabuh Energy offer smart meters?

Nabuh Energy support some smart meters currently. If your existing smart meter is not supported it will still work as a traditional meter but you will lose your meter’s smart functionality.

They are currently rolling out smart meters to their existing customers and there is a form on their website that customers can use to express their interest in having a smart meter fitted.

Do Nabuh Energy offer a recommend a friend referral scheme?

Nabuh Energy operate a friend referral scheme. Both the existing customer and the new customer get £20 which comes in the form of a credit towards their energy account. There is no limit to the amount of referrals that can be made.

Yes. In fact, Nabuh Energy claim to be the cheapest pre-payment energy supplier in Yorkshire, a claim backed up recently by Uswitch. They also offer smart meters to pre-payment customers.

Do they accept Economy 7?

Yes. Nabuh Energy are happy to accept both pre-payment and direct debit Economy 7 customers.

Are they signed up to the Warm Home Discount?

No. Nabuh Energy intend to support the Warm Home Discount at some point in the future but it is not something that they offer currently.

Are they signed up to the Energy Switch Guarantee?

Nabuh Energy are not signed up to the Energy Switch Guarantee, but 99.5% of switches are completed within 21 days.

Do they mention about the Priority Services Register?

There is a link to Priority Services Register information on Nabuh Energy’s website that goes into a lot of detail in terms of what extra services are available for vulnerable people and how they can join Nabuh Energy’s Priority Services Register.

Do they offer a ‘Dual Fuel’ discount?

Nabuh Energy claim to offer a ‘Dual Fuel’ discount, but no discount is applied to any quotes generated via their website.

Will they offer to pay a customer’s exit fees when they join them?

Nabuh Energy will not pay a customer’s exit fees if they leave their previous energy supplier before the end of their fixed rate contact term. Any such fees remain the responsibility of the customer switching to Nabuh Energy.

What happens if you move home whilst with them?

Nabuh Energy make it easy for people moving into a new home that is already supplied by them, making sure that any debt that has been left behind by the previous home owner/tenant does not have to be paid by the new occupier.

If you are leaving a home that is supplied by Nabuh Energy on a direct debit basis you will need to supply a final meter reading so Nabuh Energy can calculate your final bill. They will also help you set up a new account at your new home if you would like to continue to use Nabuh Energy for your energy supply.

Do they offer any incentives for joining?

Nabuh Energy does not offer any specific incentives to encourage customers to switch to them, although they will install smart meters for pre-payment customers.
