Our Commitment
Energy Review is committed to producing accurate, balanced, and unbiased content about UK domestic energy suppliers. This editorial policy explains how our content is created, reviewed, and maintained, and how we ensure that commercial relationships do not influence our editorial judgements.
How Content Is Generated
Every supplier review on this site is produced through a structured, multi-stage process:
- Data collection — We gather data from a range of sources (see Data Sources below). This structured data forms the factual basis for every review.
- AI draft (Gemini) — Google Gemini generates an initial article draft from the structured data. The prompt is designed to produce balanced, factual prose with no promotional bias.
- AI polish (Gemini) — A second Gemini pass refines the draft for clarity, readability, and consistency of tone.
- AI review (OpenAI) — A separate review by an OpenAI model checks for factual consistency, balance, and potential inaccuracies. Any flagged issues are resolved before the article proceeds.
- Human approval — A human editor reads the final draft, verifies key claims against source data, and approves the article for publication. No article is published without human sign-off.
- Optional manual editing — After the AI generation pipeline, an editor may make manual corrections or additions. The original AI-generated version is preserved internally and can be restored at any time.
Data Sources
Our reviews draw on the following publicly available data sources, collected on a monthly basis:
- Trustpilot ratings — Star ratings and review volume from each supplier's Trustpilot profile.
- Citizens Advice complaints data — Complaints per 10,000 customers, as published in the Citizens Advice energy supplier rating.
- Which? survey results — Customer satisfaction survey scores published by Which? in their annual energy supplier surveys.
- App store ratings — Average ratings from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store for each supplier's mobile app, where available.
- Tariff information — Unit rates, standing charges, and tariff names sourced from each supplier's public-facing website.
Update Frequency
Reviews are updated monthly. Each update incorporates the latest available data from the sources listed above. The date of the most recent data collection is displayed on each review page. In some cases, third-party data sources (such as Which? survey results) are published less frequently; where this is the case, we use the most recently available figures and note this on the page.
Human Oversight
Every article published on Energy Review has been read and approved by a human editor. Our editors are responsible for:
- Verifying that key figures match the underlying source data.
- Ensuring the tone is fair, balanced, and not promotional.
- Checking that caveats and limitations are clearly communicated to readers.
- Flagging any content that appears to misrepresent a supplier's performance in either direction.
Corrections Policy
We are committed to correcting errors promptly. If you believe any content on this site is inaccurate or misleading, please contact us at privacy@energy-review.co.uk with details of the specific claim and the evidence you believe contradicts it. We will investigate and, where appropriate, correct or annotate the relevant content within a reasonable timeframe.
Editorial Independence
Editorial decisions — including verdicts, section scores, and the overall balance of content — are made without influence from any commercial or affiliate relationships. The existence of an affiliate relationship with a supplier does not influence how that supplier is reviewed, scored, or presented. Where a supplier performs poorly in the data, our review reflects that regardless of any commercial relationship.
