Frequently asked questions
Does a cold period mean I will get a payment?
No. It means DWP has declared that the weather condition was met for the station linked to the postcode district. Payment also depends on receiving a qualifying benefit and on DWP records, which this checker does not hold.
Why does the result name a weather station?
DWP maps each postcode district in England and Wales to a Met Office weather station. The station is a measurement point, not an administrative area, and some station areas cross a national boundary.
What happens in Scotland?
Cold Weather Payment does not operate in Scotland. Scotland uses Winter Heating Payment, which has its own rules and official information.
