What the export estimate assumes
- 900 kWh generated a year for each kWp installed, which is the lower end of the usual UK range and does not account for your roof’s direction, pitch or shading.
- 50% of that exported rather than used in the house, which is the usual split for a home without a battery.
- Generation is not varied by region. A southern array does out-generate a northern one, but this site holds no yield data to put a figure on it, so it is left out rather than guessed at. The export rates themselves are real and do vary by region.
The rates are real and regional; the volume is an estimate. If you have an export meter reading, use it — a year of your own figures beats any model of your roof.
How these figures were worked out
Each tariff’s real half-hourly prices for London were weighted by when the ordinary household, single-rate meter profile uses electricity, averaged over every complete day in the window, then multiplied by 2,500 kWh a year with the standing charge added on top.
The profile is an assumption, not a measurement of you. If you have your own half-hourly data, the smart-meter replay costs your actual readings against these tariffs in your browser, which is exact where this is modelled.
- Overnight 00:00–06:00 sits at the base level, which is standing load rather than activity.
- A morning rise from 06:00 to 09:00, a shallower daytime from 09:00 to 16:00.
- The evening peak runs 16:00–22:00 and is highest between 18:00 and 20:00, at about three times the overnight base.
