Rates are read from Octopus Energy’s public API for London. The half-hourly average covers complete days only, over the last 30 days; a part-published day is left out rather than averaged in.

Octopus Energy’s flat export rates are not one rate. Outgoing Octopus pays 12.00p per kWh, while Octopus Outgoing Smart Export Guarantee pays 4.10p — a difference of 7.90p per kWh on the same exported unit. The lower one has been unchanged since 1 February 2022.
Both are Smart Export Guarantee tariffs and both are still open, so being on the older one is not a mistake anybody is told about. Your tariff name is on your export statement. Whether moving is worth it depends on your own export, which this page does not know.
Flat or half-hourly
A flat rate pays the same whenever you export, so nothing rewards timing and nothing punishes not being able to time. The half-hourly rate follows day-ahead wholesale prices, which means it pays most when the grid is short and least when it is not — and solar alone generates at midday, which is often when export pays least. In practice the half-hourly one rewards a battery, because a battery is what lets you hold generation until the rate is worth having.
Comparing the two on their headline numbers is the trap. The half-hourly figure above is an average of every half hour, and nobody exports evenly across every half hour. Which is better depends on when you export, not on which average is larger.
Using your own generation is usually worth more than exporting it, whichever tariff you are on: you avoid an import rate that is higher than every export rate on this page.
What this page cannot tell you
It cannot tell you what you would earn. That depends on how much you export and when, and neither is knowable from a rate. Nothing on this page multiplies a rate by a volume, deliberately — an earnings figure built on an assumed export volume is a guess wearing a pound sign.
Compare Octopus Energy tariffs for your home asks for your system size first and ranks export tariffs against the export volume that implies, which is the only honest way to reach a figure.
Why this page covers one supplier
Octopus Energy publishes its whole tariff catalogue through a public API, so these are the live rates rather than a headline figure copied from a marketing page. No other supplier we track does. EDF Energy, the other supplier whose prices this site reads directly, publishes no export product at all, and the rest of the market publishes no machine-readable product catalogue.
So this page compares Octopus Energy’s export tariffs with each other and says so in its title. A page ranking every supplier’s export rates would have to source most of them from press releases, and it would go stale without anything on the page changing to say so.
