How a month is decided

The tariff’s real half-hourly prices are weighted by when the ordinary household, single-rate meter profile uses electricity, then costed at 2,500kWh a year with its standing charge added. The cap is costed identically, using Ofgem’s published unit rate and standing charge for the same region and quarter.

One consumption figure is used across the whole series on purpose. Ofgem’s own benchmark consumption changed twice in this window, and following it would show jumps that were never price movements.

A month where we hold fewer than every day, or where no cap covers the whole month, is shown but not counted. “We cannot say” and “it did not beat the cap” are different answers and the table keeps them apart.

The profile is an assumption about when electricity is used, not a measurement of your home. If you have your own half-hourly data the smart-meter replay costs your actual readings instead.
