For a household that charges an electric car at home most nights, Go Electric does exactly what it says: it makes the fuel cost of driving very small, on a fixed rate you can rely on for a year.
The decision turns on whether you genuinely charge an EV at home and how much whole-home use you can move into the seven-hour window. The live day rate covers seventeen hours, and the exit fee means the full regional calculation matters before switching.
Go Electric gives you seven hours of very cheap electricity every night, from 11pm to 6am, and a single higher rate the rest of the day. It is built for charging an electric car overnight, and the night rate is low enough that a full charge costs a few pounds.
The trade is explicit: the higher day rate applies for seventeen hours. Compare the live day rate and standing charge with the off-peak saving, because too much daytime use can take back what charging saves overnight.

How it works
How EDF Go Electric sets its prices
Two rates, one boundary. From 11pm to 6am you pay the night rate; from 6am to 11pm you pay the day rate. Both are fixed for the twelve months of the agreement, so neither moves with the price cap.
The night rate applies to the whole home, not only the car. Whether the tariff saves money depends on the live day rate, standing charge and how much electricity you move into the off-peak window.
EDF recommends using at least 6% of your electricity during the off-peak hours when deciding whether GoElectric is a good option. The calculator below lets you test your own split.
Unlike EDF’s Tracker tariffs, this electricity-only tariff has a £75 exit fee, so leaving mid-term can cost money.

The day rate covers seventeen hours. Compare its live value, the standing charge and your off-peak share rather than choosing on the headline night rate alone.
Seven hours is a fixed window, not a smart one. If your car needs a longer charge you will be paying day rates for the overspill.
There is a £75 exit fee on this electricity tariff, which makes it less reversible than EDF’s no-exit-fee smart tariffs.
Fixing for twelve months means no benefit if the price cap falls during the term.

Getting the most out of EDF Go Electric
Schedule the car, not just the charger
Most cars and most chargers can both hold a schedule, and if the two disagree the car usually wins. Set the one that actually controls the charge, then check the following morning that it did what you asked.
Fill the seven hours with more than the car
The dishwasher, the washing machine and the immersion heater all run happily on a delay timer. Once the tariff is paying for itself on the car, everything else you move into the window is pure saving.
Work out your break-even before you switch
Take your annual usage, estimate honestly how much lands between 11pm and 6am, and compare it with the standard variable rate. EDF recommends at least 6% off-peak use; the break-even calculation below gives a household-specific answer from the live rates.
Compare the optional Smart Charging bolt-on
EDF currently advertises an optional managed-charging add-on with extra off-peak charging and £60 a year for plugging in. Check vehicle and charger compatibility and keep that credit separate from the tariff-only calculation.

If you have solar without a battery
The import tariff and the rate paid for exported electricity are separate decisions. A straightforward export tariff can be more useful than a peak-weighted battery tariff when generation is exported as it happens.
If you have solar and a home battery
A paired import/export tariff may fit better because a battery can charge in a cheap period and discharge or export in a more valuable one. The gross rate spread is not the same as profit after losses and degradation.
If you have a heat pump
A heat-pump tariff may align its cheaper periods with space and hot-water heating. Whether it wins depends on insulation, controls and how much heat can move away from expensive periods.

You need a smart meter; EDF will arrange one if you do not have it.

Apply directly through EDF. EDF says GoElectric normally becomes active in two to three days once the supply and compatible smart meter are connected, although it can take longer.

Set the car or the charger to draw power only between 11pm and 6am before the tariff starts. A car that charges on arrival home rather than on a schedule will buy its electricity at the day rate.

Yes. EDF currently states a £75 exit fee for GoElectric. This is an electricity-only tariff; any gas supply is on a separate tariff.
How is this different from Pod Power and Plug & Power?
Pod Power has a lower night rate on the same window but is sold only to Pod Point customers. Plug & Power bundles a Pod Point charger: you pay some of the hardware upfront and the rest through a much higher daily standing charge across twenty-four months. Go Electric is the version with no hardware attached.
