The short answer

Who EDF Pod Power is most likely to work for

Pod Power is a focused choice for an EV-owning household that already has the qualifying Pod Point Solo 3S charger. Its value comes from moving real charging into the fixed overnight window, not from the tariff name alone.

It is not automatically the right EDF EV deal for every driver. The charger requirement limits who can take it, and a household still needs to check the daytime price, standing charge and exit terms against the broader Go Electric tariff.

EDF Pod Power is the Pod Point customer version of EDF’s overnight EV tariff. It gives a fixed off-peak price for seven hours each night, from 11pm to 6am, and a higher fixed rate at other times.

The key distinction is eligibility, not the clock: EDF says this offer is for new and existing customers with a Pod Point Solo 3S home charger. A household with a different charger should compare the EV tariff EDF can actually quote for it rather than assuming Pod Power is available.

How it works

How EDF Pod Power sets its prices

From 11pm to 6am, electricity is charged at the off-peak rate. From 6am until 11pm, it is charged at the day rate. The live band schedule above shows the current regional rates on both sides of that boundary.

The tariff is fixed for twelve months, so the unit rates and standing charge shown in a successful quote do not move with the Ofgem price cap during the term. That gives an EV owner a fixed overnight charging cost, but also means they do not benefit if the cap falls.

A fully connected smart meter sending half-hourly readings is needed so EDF can identify overnight use. The same lower rate applies to household electricity in the window; it is not limited to the car.

The main trade-offs

The cheap rate is a fixed seven-hour window. Charging that starts before 11pm or continues after 6am is charged at the day rate.

Pod Power is not a general EV tariff: the Pod Point Solo 3S charger requirement is part of the product.

The day rate matters just as much as the headline off-peak rate for a household that uses most electricity during the day and evening.

A fixed tariff will not automatically become cheaper if the Ofgem price cap falls during its term.

Schedule the charge inside the whole off-peak window

Set the car or charger to start no earlier than 11pm and to finish by 6am. A schedule that begins on arrival home can turn an otherwise cheap charge into day-rate use.

Use the same window for flexible household loads

The lower rate is not reserved for the car. A dishwasher, washing machine or hot-water timer can also use the overnight band when it is safe and practical to do so.

Compare the day rate before focusing on the overnight headline

A specialist tariff can be better aligned with one large device, but its eligibility and expensive periods still matter. These are comparisons to make, not automatic recommendations.

If you have an EV

EDF Pod Power is already designed around electric-vehicle charging. Compare its cheap window, daytime rate, automation and compatibility with the alternatives before choosing.

If you have solar without a battery

The import tariff and the rate paid for exported electricity are separate decisions. A straightforward export tariff can be more useful than a peak-weighted battery tariff when generation is exported as it happens.

If you have solar and a home battery

A paired import/export tariff may fit better because a battery can charge in a cheap period and discharge or export in a more valuable one. The gross rate spread is not the same as profit after losses and degradation.

If you have a heat pump

A heat-pump tariff may align its cheaper periods with space and hot-water heating. Whether it wins depends on insulation, controls and how much heat can move away from expensive periods.
