Who are E.ON Next?
E.ON Next is the UK retail arm of the German energy group E.ON SE. It launched in 2020 to replace the older E.ON and npower brands. Today, it is one of the UK's largest domestic energy suppliers. In May 2026, E.ON announced a planned takeover of the rival supplier OVO. If approved, this deal would increase the company's scale across the UK. The supplier uses the Kraken platform to run its billing and customer accounts.
Who are Scottish Power?
Based in Glasgow and formed in 1990, Scottish Power is a subsidiary of the Spanish utility group Iberdrola. It is one of the UK's oldest and biggest domestic energy suppliers. It supplies gas and electricity to homes across the country and runs the local electricity network in parts of Scotland, Wales, and England. What sets it apart is its long-running partnership with Cancer Research UK and its Power Saver scheme, which lets eligible smart meter customers choose selected times for half-price electricity during the week.

Tariffs and pricing
E.ON Next provides the lower-priced overall deal in this comparison. The supplier's most affordable option is a 24-month fixed tariff, Next Fixed 24m v57, priced at £1,746 a year with a £200 exit fee.
By contrast, Scottish Power's lowest-priced option is its Standard variable tariff, estimated at £1,805 a year. This plan operates without a fixed term and carries no exit fees.
