Home Energy Review (2024)

Home energy logo

Home Energy is one of the newest suppliers in the UK, so there is not much information available yet. In this Home Energy review, we’ll explore everything we know about them so far, helping you determine whether they are the right supplier for you.

Home Energy has been trading since September 2016, although they haven’t been an energy supplier for that long. From their social media pages, it looks like they have been supplying energy since November 2022. Home Energy is based in Leicestershire and operates under the company name Home Energy Trading Ltd.

There isn’t much information about what makes them different as an energy supplier. They do, however, claim that they are customer-centric and that customers are their priority.

Home Energy offers three different tariffs that are available to both new and existing customers.

There is one variable tariff called Home Dual SVT Apr 2024, which has no fixed term or exit fees.

There are also two fixed tariffs available. ECO Home 10 1.0 Dual 12 is a 12-month fixed tariff that offers different unit rates for electricity depending on the time of day of usage. There is a day rate, a night rate, and an additional rate for the hours 2 pm-4 pm and 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm. The day rate is 30p per kWh, the night rate is 10p per kWh, and the additional rate falls in between at 18p per kWh. (These rates are for the East Midlands region).

The other fixed tariff is much simpler. This one is called Home Dual Fixed Dec 2023 and has one electricity rate for all hours of the day (26.1975p per kWh). This tariff is also fixed for 12 months.

Both of these fixed rates tariffs have no exit fees.

All of these tariffs require a smart meter.

Home Energy is currently one of the cheapest energy suppliers in the UK as of May 2024. When we compare tariffs, they are generally one of the suppliers at the top end of the list.

The cheapest tariff currently is the Home Dual SVT Apr 2024, so we will use this below to outline the example monthly and annual costs.

3-bedroom house with typical electricity usage (2,900 kWh) would pay £811 per year or £67.59 per month.

The same property with typical gas usage (12,500 kWh per year) would pay £762 per year or £63.52 per month.

These are the unit rates and standing charges for gas and electricity as of May 2024. They are for the East Midlands region.

When it comes to Home Energy reviews from existing customers, there currently is very little to go on. The reviews that they do have are quite mixed.

They score 3.9 out of 5 on Trustpilot, based on 36 reviews, with 61% of reviewers giving them a 5-star review. The negative reviews generally are focused on poor service, although their customer service is also praised in other reviews.

According to Home Energy’s fuel Mix for the latest period, 40.8% of the energy they supply comes from renewables. You can see the full details of their fuel mix below:

There is no data on Home Energy’s customer service from sources like Citizen’s Advice because they are such a small supplier.

Home energy website for this home energy review

Through the Home Energy website, you can get a quote in only a few minutes which makes it very simple to sign up to the supplier. You can also manage your account through the website, which lets you pay bills, provide meter readings and see your energy usage.

There doesn’t appear to be an app on either app store for the supplier, so all account management will need to be done through the website.

You can find all of Home Energy’s details below:

Consumer advice experts, such as Martin Lewis, typically offer insights and recommendations based on their own analysis and the prevailing market conditions.

However, we have not come across any specific recommendations from consumer advocates like Martin Lewis regarding Home Energy.

Hi, I'm Rob and I run Energy-Review.co.uk. I initially started this project 5 years ago when I was looking to switch energy suppliers and found there wasn't a website that provided simple, data backed reviews on all the suppliers available. Since then, I spent have a lot of time (too much some may say!) looking at all publicly available data about each supplier and writing reviews using this information. These reviews are updated as regularly as possible and any data is backed up by a source where necessary. I have also started writing guides on various energy related topics which hopefully you will find useful. If you find any issues, please use our contact form to let us know.
