While their home tariffs are quite simple they also offer a variety of other products including upgrades, electric cars services, smart storage heaters, and home energy storage. But if you’re just sticking to the basics OVO Energy offers a great service that is sure to please many people.

What tariffs do OVO offer?

One of the best things about OVO Energy is the simplicity of its tariffs. Customers will have a choice between the Better Energy tariff which is a 12-month contract and the 2 Year Fixed Energy contract. Each energy plan can also be upgraded to offer a 100% renewable energy for an extra £5 a month.

You can get a quote instantly on the OVO Energy website and both tariffs offer discounts if you opt-in for a fully paperless plan. There are also interest rewards and both tariffs do have exit fees, so make sure you take that into account.

One downside to consider when it comes to OVO Energy’s tariffs is that while it is simple and straightforward you do only have two options. Other energy providers might offer a lot more variety so even though the tariffs available are certainly good options they just might not be what you’re looking for. As part of our OVO Energy review I’ve also listed some main key points of their tariffs below.

How do OVO compare on price?

Many of OVO Energy’s reviews highlight their fair prices, although some customers do state they have issues with overcharging on their direct debit payments. Although OVO Energy does state payments are readjusted (both increased and decreased) based on usage levels which does seem to be why some customers have misunderstood the payments.

Overall OVO Energy does seem to offer great value for money, with Which giving them 4 out of 5 stars. However, Which also found that OVO Energy even on it cheapest tariffs was still far from the cheapest tariff on the market. It’s still good value for money but it’s not the best, so make sure you take that into account.

What is OVO’s customer service like?

Information on Citizens Advice is limited when it comes to OVO Energy’s customer service but both Which and TrustPilot do have a lot of useful information. Which awarded them 5 stars for both online and telephone customer service. Complaints handling also received 4 stars as well however while things are certainly quite positive for OVO Energy there is some bad news.

Which revealed that in 2017 94% of customers surveyed said they were satisfied with OVO Energy’s service but in 2018 only 88% of customers said the same. It’s still a very impressive score but it is quite a bit lower than it was the year before. Which also found that OVO Energy was slow to answer phones but did receive very few complaints overall.

OVO Energy complaints

OVO Energy has scored quite well when it comes to customer service on the Citizen’s Advice Bureau website they have been found to have 97.5% complaints for every 100 thousand customers. That might sound high but it’s actually a very respectful score although it could certainly be better.

Overall the Citizen’s Advice Bureau scored OVO Energy 3.55 out of 5 which is good but not great, However, other websites like Which as previously mentioned scored OVO energy much higher, in the Which customer survey, for example, OVO energy came in at joint sixth out of the 31 energy suppliers surveyed.

One other area of praise is that OVO Energy did reply to many of the negative reviews on TrustPilot and offered further help and support, the complaints section of their website is also very easy to find.

What do other OVO Energy reviews say?

TrustPilot, as mentioned previously, gives OVO Energy a very high score at the time of writing there are exactly 19,312 reviews and of them, 75% have given them the highest rating of excellent and 15% are rated great! While only 7% of total reviews rate OVO Energy poor or bad, so customer reviews are certainly very impressive.

Which reviews are also positive but they have slipped a little this year and under Which’s examination they are no longer classed as the British energy customers favourite supplier. However, they did hold that title for the last two years so it could be argued that they would lose it sooner or later.

The good reviews continue with uSwitch’s 2018 customer survey giving OVO Energy 83% total score. This is an overall score which looks at value for money, customer service and other key areas. OVO Energy also received two awards in 2017 from uSwitch it was named the energy supplier of the year winner and the value for money winner.

Overall uSwitch awarded OVO Energy 4 and a half stars out of five which is a very impressive score. Reviews from professional websites and customers alike are very impressive for OVO Energy there are still areas where they could improve but when you look at everything they are doing quite well.

What is OVO’s website/app like?

OVO Energy’s website is clean and modern which makes it easy to navigate and find the information you’re looking for. The help and support section, in particular, is worthy of praise and so is the discussion forum.

OVO Energy also as an app available for both IOS and Android devices, which have both been rated highly on their respective stores. Although the IOS app seems to run better when you read both apps reviews. The online portal for OVO Energy is also something that is highly praised in many of the customer reviews as well.

How green is OVO’s energy?

One of OVO Energy’s biggest selling points is the fact that it offers 100% renewable energy although as I mentioned previously this is something you actually need to opt-in for. OVO Energy’s fuel blend only uses two sources renewables and natural gases.

64.7% is classed as renewable energy while the natural gas is the other 35.3%. So, even if you don’t opt-in for the 100% renewable energy the fuel mix is still relatively green and eco-friendly.

  1. Ovo informed me after making regular monthly payments that I owed them £1400 in electricity due to a technical error on their end. I of course said wipe that debt as it was a fault in there end and o have been paying in good faith. I opened a customer complaint and was assured this would be done and I’d here nothing more. March comes 3 months later. They put my account into -£961, and informed me they have given me a 10% discount. In the email explaining this it states ‘due to a technical error’. I have paid monthly I have paid in full and now am told, because someone in there company made a mistake I owe them a huge sum of money. Single mum of two children in a pandemic who has never even paid late let alone missed a payment. Disgusting and legal action will be taken.

  2. Do not sign up to @OVOEnergy called ‘trying to save me money’ telling me to adjust my boiler, this then racked up a debt of £360 on top of normal usuage which they admitted was a member of their staffs fault but still expect me to pay. Not genuine don’t trust them

  3. Ovo are rubbish at customer service. They have been promising a meter change (faulty smart meter) for 18 months (Excluding Covid period)and failed in every expected respect of their promised service. This is a zero star company!

  4. I was forced onto OVO because my old supplier Economy Energy went bust. I was forced to stay with OVO for 6-7 months. I was stuck on a variable high tariff waiting for OVO as they refused to allow me to switch providers or change my tariff and I was never in debit. They owe me £375.95 plus interest. I base a company based on their customer support in this case my complaint was ignored for a year a whole year.
