Alan Chang and Charles Orr set up Fuse Energy in 2022. It is a privately owned business backed by venture capital investors. The company bought Paddington Power to get its supply licence. It is a vertically integrated supplier, meaning it owns and runs solar and wind farms in the UK and uses its funding to build new renewable capacity. Through its own growth, it has become a fast-growing energy startup and is now one of the UK's newer domestic suppliers.

Stephen Fitzpatrick set up OVO Energy in 2009. The company grew significantly when it completed its acquisition of SSE's GB household energy business in 2020. Today, OVO Energy is one of the UK's largest domestic energy suppliers. In 2026, it announced a planned deal to become part of E.ON, which would increase its scale.
